MG3 ZR – pictures!

The MG3 Streetwise was due to be released earlier this year, but we havent seen one in the dealerships as of yet. We have heard that they were delayed due to poor finishing on the interiors, the MG3 Streetwise did get a bit of criticism from various Chinese motoring magazines for the quality of the interior finish, perhaps NAC have delayed the launch of it until problems are sorted. However, the MG3 ZR will be shown off again at the Beijing Auto Show, pictures below!

The Chinese motoring press believe that the 1.4 MG3 ZR may be well suited to the economy side of the market, where the 1.4 engine wont receive much competition. Its main competitors at this level are the Pug 206, the Mazda 2 both of which have smaler engines (1.3/1.4l)

What do China Car Times readers think of the MG3 ZR? We think the Streetwise has survived the trip into China, where as the MG3 ZR seems to look a bit out of date. Give us a Streetwise, keep the ZR!

Update: We just realized the MG3 ZR is actually electronically limited to 178kph. Sign us up for an MG3 ZR, keep the Streetwise.  Plenty of poke for getting around the city!

Please bring the MG ZR to Europe again. I have one of the last UK produced models and it looks almost exactly the same on the outside and the inside. Only on the inside the steering wheel and some switched are altered and the counters also, but the rest is the same.I see different alloys, but I think they were also aviable in the MG-ROver era. The taillights were an optional extra when I bought my car. I love that car and would like to buy one again if mine will have to much kilometers driven. But I hope MG will make also a Diesel, because now I have a 2.0L diesel in the MG ZR

It may be a little aged but if you had seen the way the little ZR/MG3 flew around the remaining Brooklands circuit in 2004 on a MGR show day, you’d be convinced of it’s surefooted ability.

A shame the ZS isn’t coming back, as although based on the ancient Honda Domani, it has a great chassis and with 1.8 or V6 power it is a real drivers car. I guess a version of the SAIC/Roewe mid ranger will now serve this purpose.

Any idea when we’ll be getting MG’s in the UK, China or Longbridge built?

    Mark

i realy hope MG3 ZR come to UK!!!!!!! 2.0 diesel engine! there are huge demands for fast car over here! i think 1.8 is good competing with other cars like civics, and VW golf gti, it wil blend in with other fast cars.
i havent got an mg yet, i rather wait to get the new model nanjing with mg sounds realli cool! rather than buying second hands over here! its just the 1 car that ive been waiting for 3 years!!!
how much will it cost if it was over in UK?

Well the old ZR was a good little car, and I recon theres a good UK market for the MG3. With the 1.4 ideal for the younger driver, the 1.8 vvc was a great hothatch and the 2.0 diesel for those who put a few miles on theirs.
Not sure about the MG3 corssover (Rover streetwise), the MG branding is being brought down a level with that.

Mark, there apears to be a replacement for the ZS in the form of the MG5 and the ZT replacement is the MG7.

My 55 reg ZR is due for replacement later this year & would really fancy another, but that will all depend on a UK launch of the MG3.
