Zotye to expand line up with old Multipla

19 April 2008 5 Comments

Fiat and Zotye signed a deal last year, we all thought the deal was a potential JV, but its more like a deal to sell of Fiats old designs to Zotye who will continue to produce them in the PRC.  The first Fiat for Zotye is the Multipla, quite an ugly car when it was first launched in the UK but the second generation Multipla thankfully got rid of the bulk of the ugliness. Ugliness aside, the Multipla did win car of the year in 2000, and best family car, so perhaps the Multipla will be a winner in Zotyes hands?

The last picture shows the model number for the car, it appears a name hasnt been given to the Zotye Multipla, but the model no shows the car will be powered by a 1.6l unit, but where or who the engine is from, we do not know (yet)

This is a five seater. Why? The only big advantage of the car was, that it seated six persons - in two rows. I wonder, why they have skipped that feature?! Talk to Multipla drives and they will tell you how wide the car is. It´s just because of the third seat in the front row!

    Snickers,

It looks to be a six seater to me. The front middle seat looks like its folded down?

Actually you posted a pic of the interior of the OLD Multipla. Of course that was a six seater! But i was talking about that Zotye-Version. ANd that still seems to be a five-seater (that middle box can´t be a folded seat, as there are is no head-rest).

The original Multipla was a radical, challenging design. Some people thought it was ugly, but many of us thought it was wonderful. Fiat’s redesign was a disaster though. The newer version really is ugly, and not true to its original design brief.
