Beijing 2008: Geely GT – makes Jag XF look old hat

No doubt those that will read this article and link to it will make the usual Chinese car jokes “Will it come with lead paint?” “Will it fold up like a Cola can in a crash?” but just for a moment take in the lines of Geely GT. Note the lack of a Geely badge, which may hint at a potential upmarket brand from Geely, the way that the big Japanese brands made separate brands (Infiniti, Lexus, etc) back in the 90′s.

This GT alone, should go some way in persuading the naysayers that believe Geely is not ‘serious‘ about making cars. The cars that they’ve shown off at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show are by far their best yet. For more on the Geely GT check out our previous article on the Geely GT

Wow, a very good looking car. It looks very luxorious and sporty. I’m sure if it would be for sale in Europe many people would consider to buy it, because it’s a great design, looks very sporty and luxorious. I would prefer it to a Mercedes, it’s far more good looking. If they put a big V8 engine in it, than it will be a bomb. Great design, congratulations Geely…….

Holy, it’s real! They should put that FAW 6L V12 in it to make it a truly Chinese car.

The first Chinese car I would buy, if it has a proven reliability and is price around $20K.

LOL at the title. Looks good, but not that good. It’s a step forward for the Chinese car industry though. Unique design.

Pretty good specimen for a Chinese Concept car – this one has Brake Calipers! ;-)

Now put this in production Geely… show Chery’s who’s boss. :)

Nice car but absolutely ridiculous headline. I enjoy reading this website but headlines with this nationalistic fervor inappropriately placed sure is out of place. If the car’s good, the pictures will do the talking, not some poorly thought out contrived comparison. The Jag is a 4 door saloon so if you want to make a comparison, something like a Maserati GT or some other sports car would be much more appropriate.

A quantum leap in the right direction away from the Fengyin (batmobile)shown at Beijing 2006.

  12. avatar Anthony says:

Why would Geely want to introduce an ‘upmarket’ brand for this car, Geely means nothing to the west….so Geely’s upmarket brand will mean nothing. May as well put the investment into making the Geely brand a brand. As for the car, I agree….the next Batmobile!!

    Sorry IHC
But the link you just gave us showed nothing except for the quote from China car times and pictures of the GT, it does not say that it was designed in Korea or anything. Show us other concrete evidence.

Looks nice but looks a bit too similar to (er, a copy of) the Alfa Romeo Competizione 8C for my liking.

  15. avatar Mememe says:

oh i see that’s why you went from autoblog to this site with evidence like single line comment from a commentator to a Beijing autoshow coverage on your threebird just to convince people that korean made this .

    rofl. what next ?
