Nice looking car. If it goes into production then the only thing limiting it will be a decent engine. In China that won't matter so much but outside the mainland it could.

> Indian car Blog

i believe that the only way to build brand image is by offering cars similar to the world-famous ones and then after a point, start making your own ones.

Tata became world-famous instantly with Nano. And everyone praised Tata for being so original and inventive, in spite of Nano being the cheapest car in the world.

> and lets not forget that China is in the top 3 of the largest automotive markets in the world.

There are too many global giants doing business in China for China's own brands to grow. Basically, Chinese communist party made the mistake of openning up the Chinese market before Chinese brands were ready to compete with global giants. This wasn't the case with Japan and Korea, where their respective governments opened up their market only after their local brands became world players and could compete head to head with foreigh brands.

> I have never heard (correct me if i’m wrong) of Honda tying up with a local brand to make cars for that particular market…shows the potential and opportunities that lie ahead for China and other international brands..

Chinese government requires foreign companies to come up with Chinese-sounding brand to mask their foreignness.

Tata is a bad example since Tata wasn't serious about making an assault on passenger car market until now.

Once Tata got serious about the passenger car market, you see them buying up Jaguar/Land Rover and doing Nano, which is only possible if you have lots of cash which Tata does.

Yes, Chinese car makers don't have the big bucks and the only way to showcase their potential is by copying someone else's design which reduces the development cost considerably..and when you see a QQ3, you would describe it to another person as- "looks exactly like the Matiz or Spark"..which gives the other person an idea that it would look very cool and nice...i believe that the only way to build brand image is by offering cars similar to the world-famous ones and then after a point, start making your own ones..and lets not forget that China is in the top 3 of the largest automotive markets in the world..I have never heard (correct me if i'm wrong) of Honda tying up with a local brand to make cars for that particular market...shows the potential and opportunities that lie ahead for China and other international brands..

Ok IHC.

This is probably the first time I PARTIALLY agree with you but on the other hand I can pull off some example of multi-billions company that is still struggle to make decent products and compete globally. Sorry I know I know I am not supposed to drag the third party in but I am using it as an example (Ash if you think it's not appropriate then delete it please).

Tata motors is part of the conglomerate Tata group there, a multi-billions group being established for more than 60 years and yet still struggle to compete on global arena and still struggling to sell off some units in African countries notably South Africa, if i am not wrong last year it only exported a modest of about 50k units. And its latest breakthrough is the world's cheapest car. Now that does not look like a money fight to me.

Of course the Ssangyong Chairman is $100k+; they have to somehow payback Mercedes for the use of the W128 S-class chassis.
.
Anyways, it's awesome that the Geely GT uses the same W128 chassis, I don't mind having proper German underpinnings. I'd take a Merc-designed chassis over any Asian-marque anyday. The W128 was probably the last of the old-fashioned Benz.

Also, the gallery where Thirdeye posts the Geely GT, they also show the Audi R8, and VW Tiguan. Either the webmaster is inept for mixing his employer's designs with competitors, or it's merely a fan posting.

Sketchy at best. Thirdeye links the Geely GT to its forums and posts some of the renders CCT posted up a few weeks ago.
.
Geely is not listed on their list of clients despite their use of Geely photos.
.
But regardless, it's always good for international collaboration. This blatant racist should be glad the Chinese companies have enough money to throw around at his compatriots. Not sure why I bother to feed the troll.
.
BTW, please go tell the gentlemen below that a Korean "copied" the Competizione 8C. And go reply all the people on autoblog that are blaming the Chinese for 'copying' the 350Z rear end and some obscure supercar's grille.

Ssanyong Chairman? You mean Mercedes S-class! The chairman is nothing but an exercise in badging. Hell it looks the same as the W128 S-class. But uglified.
.
Ssangyong wouldn't have the resources to build something of that calibre. Not to mention Ssangyong is 51% owned by SAIC, do you really think that SAIC would let Geely use their platform?

Sorry IHC
But the link you just gave us showed nothing except for the quote from China car times and pictures of the GT, it does not say that it was designed in Korea or anything. Show us other concrete evidence.

Why would Geely want to introduce an 'upmarket' brand for this car, Geely means nothing to the west....so Geely's upmarket brand will mean nothing. May as well put the investment into making the Geely brand a brand. As for the car, I agree....the next Batmobile!!

Nice car but absolutely ridiculous headline. I enjoy reading this website but headlines with this nationalistic fervor inappropriately placed sure is out of place. If the car's good, the pictures will do the talking, not some poorly thought out contrived comparison. The Jag is a 4 door saloon so if you want to make a comparison, something like a Maserati GT or some other sports car would be much more appropriate.
