Brilliance seem to have learned quite a lot since the BS6 came out onto the market a few years back, formally a truck maker that got into the car making business with a loud splash - the BS6 was their first sedan. The BS4 came next, then the FRV hatchback, then the coupe, and now the BS4 Wagon! The wagon was unveiled at the Beijing show, but pictures of the interior were hard to come by, below you can see quite detailed pictures of the interior, showing that Brilliance has definitely learned a hard lesson in design:

The interior of the BS4 Wagon looks to have been completely redone when compared to the original BS4 sedan:

DVD’s in the back for the kids, and plenty of room for storage with the seats down. The dash looks to have been re-done as well.

The Brilliance BS4 wagon was designed by the Italian design house, Pinifarina, who are most certainly doing some swift business these days thanks to the Chinese manufacturers. The BS4 Wagon is expected to go on the market later this year, prices are expected to start from 90,980rmb for base 1.8 manual models, 2.0l models are expected to be sold, as are potential diesel models for the European markets.
One thing is for sure, China Car Times sure thinks this Brilliance Wagon is a whole lot better looking than the (occasional) 3 series wagons we see going around China!

So do you think these pictures are genuine? The scenery is obviously photoshopped but what about the rest of it? If not it is a massive improvement over the existing BS4 and looks really good.
Brilliance did tell me they were thinking of doing darker leather for the European market. Looks good.
Hope they don’t put the two engines in the car that you mention Ash. The 1.8 is a turkey and the 2.0 not much better. This car needs the 1.8T and the turbo diesel.
Genuine? They look like the kind of pictures that Pinafirina roll out when showing off designs.
I agree with you, the Shenyang Mitsubishi engines are not that good once post 1.3l.
Aren’t the engines from Harbin rather than Shenyang?
I don’t think so Mark, although Mitsubishi may be building some engines in Harbin for Hafei. Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Engine Manufacturing Co. is located in Shenyang. I once heard that Brilliance owned upward of 31% of this operation.
At least one Brilliance employee told me that the 1.8 was a Harbin engine.
It surprises me to hear it but I guess I am wrong.
You might well be right. It’s not the first time an employee would know nothing about his company’s products. Trying to get any sense out of a gaggle of 6 employees was difficult.
1.8 engine is the 4G93 model
2.0 engine is the 4G63S4M model
Both are coming from a supplier called Shenyang Huachen Jinbei Automobile Company.
Seems Dragin is right, Zhonghua do have a slice of the Mitsubishi making pie!
Thanks for setting the record straight Ash. Typical employee knowing nothing about his company’s products!
If this were around when wagons were cool, this one would have blown away all the competition.
I really like it and think that with gas prices on the rise it may be just the ticket for getting the kids back and forth to soccer.
Looked really great in person, Brilliance also had a nice stand at Beijing 2008 with a overseas friends reception area.
