China Car Times is hearing rumors that the recently launched Roewe 550 will under go some sports treatment and be re-badged as the MG6. MG and Roewe appear to continue the relationship that MG and Rover once had - Rover making classy cars, whilst MG made sports versions. The Roewe 550 is expected to go on the market around June/July this year all going well, meanwhile the MG version, the MG6 is expected to go on the market at the same time.
The Roewe 550 is based on a shortened Rover 75 platform which was developed by Rover under BMWs tenure as the owners of the British automaker. For more about the Roewe 550, and its state of the art technology, we recommend reading this article.
China Car Times thinks perhaps an MG6 would be a more suitable car, than a Brilliance Coupe.

It would be more logical to call it MG5 like the Roewe 750 gave the MG7…Keep the MG6 name for a coupé
I can’t see it being launched at the same time as the 550, are you sure it’s not June/July next year for the MG6?
This is truly a great-looking car. If the engineering and quality levels are up to snuff, than an MG-branded version could make it in the European market — and even in Germany (where I am).
I guesstimate - sports interior, tightened suspension, lower suspension, bigger wheels, and most importantly: A bit of tinkering with the suspension!
I cant wait to see the next incarnation of the Rover 75 platform, it should be an MPV! An MG MPV ala the Smax, would be awesome.
Looks like Roewe may already be working on an MPV based on this platform?

Wow….it seems like no more love for the Brilliance coupe now? When they make the MG variant of this auto, its pretty much just a cosmetic change and maybe tighter suspension? - Not much in terms of engine tuning?
Coupe isnt so good for dragging your friends around in! The rear seats were designed with midgets in mind!
I suppose so, but thats what the other car is for right?
- I wonder if MG will put their 1.8T into their MG3 to compete with the Brilliance FRV with their 1.8T
nice. I hope roewe 550 really lives up to its promises.
