The auto maintenance market is just starting in China. Quality parts & a good maintenance history will help with resell values.

I wouldn't touch a second hand car in the Chinese market. As Ash has said they are usually grossly over priced. Then there is the probablility that they have been badly driven, poorly maintained, and repaired using dodgy parts in dingy back street garages. Plus it'll probably stink of smoke.

The VW modders over here obsessing over the now obsolete VW MK2s would probably salivate at the sight of all these ancient VWs and the possible treasure trove of repair parts!

@Ash: Is there some sort of Chinese equivalent to the "Kelly Blue Book" (general used car pricing guidelines) available to gauge car prices or is this sort of market too immature now?

Yes, I think you're right, but that would be the case of well maintained cars, and as I could see in the pics, this is no the case.

Here in Chile, the second hand market is as important as are the new cars'. In Fact, for each new going to the streets, 3 used are sold.

Here is a website dedicated to offer 2nd hand vehicles in Chile:

I think that buying a second hand car is better than buying a new car because the used cars are much cheaper than the new ones, but still are very qualitative.

From now there is lots of money waiting to be made in China's used, or shall we say, "pre-owned" car market.
