Chinese 3 emissions standard to be enforced nationwide

dirtybus1.jpgEmissions standards on vehicles will be raised nationwide by July 1st to the Chinese 3 standard, which is the same as Euro 3 specification. However, some cities, such as Xi’An are delaying plans to enforce the emissions standards to give local truck makers the chance to play catch up in emissions standards. Xi’An city government has given truck, bus and car makers until Sept 08 to bring their engines upto date. Nationwide, the central government has given Chinese engine makers until July 1st to upgrade their engines to Chinese 3 emissions, and Xi’an has given until Sept 08. Other cities such as, Chengdu, have implemented Chinese 3 emission laws since May this year, Guangzhou city plans to implement Chinese 3 by June 08, Beijing is currently leading the way with implementing Chinese 5 (Euro 5) specifications earlier this year, which lead to many models being taken off the Beijing market place.

Nice effort!

Due to the amazingly fast growing chinese car lot, it will bring a huge fresh breath for the environment…

This will be very good for the environment and will make the Chinese cars more competitive.

Let’s hope that ALL of their cars (including export units for less strict markets) can be equiped with these cleaner engines.

To signify the change to more eco friendly engines they should change the paint scheme for the trucks from powder blue to earth green, that might make more of a earth friendly statement than simply changing written laws…

Way too long in country, I really need a vacation.

That would kick off the streets most cars. Not to mention that factories would be forced to sell their stocks only for export and would need to improve their engines etc.

Euro V in Beijing is a nice effort, let’s hope it can be adopted soon in other provinces.

Hi!

Is the photo of an Irisbus or somethink like that? I write from Spain and we are proud to produce some kind of buses in China. I think Irizar produces there with Tianjin Irizar Coach”, isn’t it?

Best regards!

Javier,

I am not sure - it was just belching out black fumes from the exhaust when ever the driver stepped on the gas or changed gear! I took the photo a while back, ill see if its still on my phone!
