Yesterdays 7.9 earthquake in the Chengdu area of Sichuan has shut down production at a Toyota plant, and the Chang’an plants were evacuated during the day. The earthquake has claimed a death toll of an estimated 10,000 people, thus making the evacuations and work suspension at the factories a wise choice for bosses and workers alike.
The Toyota plant (the plant produces the Prado SUV and Coaster mini bus) bosses have decided to cancel one shift on Tuesday to inspect damage to the factory, whilst the Chang’an Mazda, Ford, and Chang’an Motors factories were evacuated for the day. A FAW-VW plant that produces the Jetta was also evacuated.
Nissan, G.M. and Honda operations in Sichuan were apparently not effected by the quake.

Huge earthquake, I was watching tv news last night and they said about 18.000 people are missing.
I’m really sorry for chinese people, greetings from South America.
Pd: I think the car factories shut down is not as important as the collapse of a school full of students is.
My condolences to anybody reading this who has been impacted by this horrendous event.
Our prayers go out to the victims and their surviving family members.
Ditto, dragin. We all kid about copycat cars and bad body trim held on with duct tape but tradgedy is another matter. God speed.
