Practically every Chinese and Foreign company in China have sprung into action to aid the earthquake victims in Sichuan, automotive companies appear to have been in the thick of the donation action this week with car companies giving massive donations and running donation campaigns. China Car Times gives you a run down on who is doing what:

  • Chery donated a cool 12 million RMB for the victims, and has donated 30 cars to aid in bringing in supplies to affected areas. The 12 million raised, is actually what was donated by Chery employees. The cars donated are 20 Riich 2 MPV’s and 10 Tiggo SUVs these vehicles will be used by disaster relief workers for bringing in supplies to those who need it.
  • BMW have sent 1 million RMB to the Red Cross of China, and a BMW X3 SUV for aiding in relief work. In snow storms earlier this year, BMW also donated 1 million RMB towards relief funds. BMW has also been organizing BMW dealers, and BMW car owners into setting up relief convoys to take supplies into Sichuan. A Beijing BMW dealership chain donated 450k RMB, and a Chongqing BMW dealership will be donating 1000rmb on every car sold to disaster relief until May. Other BMW dealerships have told their staff to donate blood!
  • Toyota have set up an MSN campaign for MSN users in China, more about this here:
  • The Automotive website, Auto.sohu.cn has set up a donations area on their site. Donations have reached 50 million RMB from users and companies, as well receiving 535 donated vehicles to aid with the disaster relief – a mixture of small vehicles, sedans, coaches, and a whole range of trucks from light to heavy.

China Car Times will keep you updated on this amazing show of charity from citizens, and companies involved in the automobile industry around China.

Among other things, Ford donated seven Transits – all converted to ambulance cars. They had been driven from the plant in Nanchang 1800kms to Chengdu and have been handed over to the Chinese Red Cross on Sunday morning.
