Short wheel base Pajero SUV launched in China – Did it get fat?
The new Pajero SWB SUV was launched in China this week, but we have to ask, does Short Wheel Base even mean anything anymore? The SWB Pajero was a long time favorite of China Car Times, the Changfeng assembled one was always the apple of China Car Times motoring eye. It was basic SUV with all the stuff to make it go to the right places, but this new one? What has it been eating?

The above 3 door Pajero that will be launched in China comes with a 3.8 Vl engine, and a hefty price tag – 550,000rmb! When China Car Times saw it at the Qingdao Car show we thought ‘If its 200k, we’ll take it, no questions asked’ obviously we were a little floored when the sales man said 550k. The original 3 door Pajero was great, it had everything the bigger Pajero had, but in smaller dimensions, this new ‘short wheel base‘ Pajero makes the Honda CRV look like a Matchbox car!

Hi Ash, the Pajero 3-door is probably so expensive as it is full-import and no assembly.
Yes, the salesman said it was so – but 550k? I was shocked!
The Changfeng Pajero, isnt that the Shogun Pinin a mini Shogun/Pajero. It’s not the same as a SWB Pajero.
Wasnt there one even smaller than the SWB Shogun? A three door kei car!
There were three Pajeros…
- the normal one in both five and three doors.
- the Pinin (from Pininfarina) also marketed as Io in five and three doors which was a good-seller in Europe.
- the Pajero Mini, even smaller and exclusively in three doors, actually a kei car sold only in Japan.
Yeah the Changfeng version is the one smaller than the SWB. It’s the Pinin version
At the end of the day its still and ItchiMiki and that says enough!550k-sheer bloody madness!
