MGTF to get Japanese competition

21 May 2008 5 Comments

mx5a.JPGThe MGTF could be in for a rough ride soon, as its arch enemy, the Mazda MX5 is set to go on the market in China in early 2009.

The MX5 and the MGTF have traditionally tussled for space in the two seater roadster market across Europe, now that tussle will be coming to China. The MX5 will be imported into China, and is expected to be priced at 200 to 250,000rmb when launched, a lot cheaper than the MGTF

Want one? Well, you’ll have to wait until March 2009 to get one, but they will be here!

I think MG need a price rethink and ‘fast’. Something I don’t think the MGTF can be descibed as!

Great News! I was really hoping the MX-5 would make it over here. The TF while I suppose interesting, really seemed overpriced for what it offers. I was originally thinking the Mx-5 wasn’t over here for domestic vs international competition. Glad to see that I was wrong :-) Hope this spurs MG to put more efforts into getting the next TF out sooner…

The MG TF is bound to be more expensive than a Mazda as MG will make their cars in smaller numbers anyway. TF will find customers as it’s an individual cars with considerable style, and the MG has a more interesting specification with its mid-engined layout. By comparison the Mazda is quite bland
