New VW Gol for Brazil puts Chinese press into overdrive!

The VW Gol is a model from VW aimed at developing markets, it was initially only for Brazil but seems to have spread itself far and wide. SAIC are the manufacturers of the Gol in China, and have seen some success sales wise. The three door variant was not extremely popular, but the 5 door version proved relatively popular for its straight looks and decent price. Sadly, the pick up truck versions nor the wagons, never made it to China.

The new Gol for Brazil may well come to China, but the question of ‘when?’ seems to be the biggest question right now for Chinese motor fans!

I predict it will come here asap…. after all there are not enough different VWs competing with each other for the same customers ;-)

That camo cladding really threw me off; looks just like a Nissan Tiida!

the gol has been one of the bestsellers in Brazil for over 20 years.
The current generation is based on a very old plataform, that was first used in 1994.
.
I didn’t know the Gol has sold in China! Can anyone tell me how much it costs, and if it sells good???
.
I’ve driven several Gols, Paratis (the SW) and Saveiros (the mini-truck). Even the brand new ones felt like driving a 10 year old vehicle. As I said, it’s an old plataform, and when you drive it, you can clearly feel it’s dated. Basically, all crappy vehicles! They sell cause they are cheap.
.
This new GOL is promised to be a revolution over the current one, which, due to it’s ancient plataform, adopts a longitudinal engine disposition. The new is promised to finally adopt transversal disposition

This is the latest teaser VW Brazil has released about the new gol.

VW China has always taken brazilian projects and adapting them into the chinese market.
.
The santana 2000/3000 (the not-so-square one) is the best example of it.

.
Remodeled over the ancient santana (which was the even older passat, in Europe), VW took it to china and sold it, becoming such a huge market hit.
In Brazil, santana has been discontinued for several years already, being the last years of it’s life attending almost completely for fleet sales and cab drivers.

GM China also takes some projects from Brazil, as can be seen with the Sail. The Sail is just a facelifted Opel Corsa Sedan, which was made and sold in Brazil first in 1996. In Brazil, GM vehicles are all simply sold as Chevrolet.

they also have the little pickup truck based on the 4200 Corsa (the current corsa is the 4350):

.
these subcompact trucks are as popular as the “utes” in Australia.
Consider it a very downsized Holden Ute..haha
=)
