70k for an excellent looking Geely

The Geely King Kong hatchback is set to be one of the cheapest, and best looking, Geely automobiles on the road when it is launched in July this year.

The engine of the Geely HRV is known to be a 4 cylinder, 16 valve, 1.5l model, paired to a 4 speed automatic, or a 5 speed manual.

China Car Times has heard rumors that the above hatchback will be around 70,000rmb when launched, making it one of the cheapest automatics on the road, and one of the best looking Geely production cars to date! Would we have one? Of course we would!

I wonder whose technology went into the engine and automatic transmission.

Rather good looking for 70k. Since it’s a 1.5L, it sounds like the Toyota-licensed engine from the CK. Let’s hope it’s safer than the CK! Hm, and interestingly enough, I just found out Geely only started making cars in 1998! Impressive improvments in such a short time.

look like a BMW reject. Geely is the most pathetic Chinese car maker.

I must say it IS a nice looking car - and I’ve seen it. The official debut was at the Shenzhen auto show…..I was there last friday (6/6) and seeing it in person was a pleasant surprise. DEFINITELY the best looking production Geely yet! The 5 door king kong has a more confident appearance than the 4 door version - NOT rounding out the back hatch (a la the Chery A3 or Ford Focus) area is a big reason I think. The interior is virtually identical to the 4 door version, which is not a bad thing - the king kong interior has always been pleasing in my opinion. The 5 door version also offers a 60/40 split rear seat….which is a first for Geely (I’ve always been bothered by the fact that they never offered a split fold down rear seat in previous models like the Merrie or Haoxing). Overall a very nice car - it’s not up to the “classy” appearance of the Brilliance FRV BUT it is 10,000 rmb cheaper (compared to the price of the FRV 1.6AT). Congrats Geely - hope this is a sign of better things to come!
