Roewe 550 - Officially on the market, CCT tempted to get wallet out

The Roewe 550 officially jumped onto the Chinese market place earlier today, pricing was announced, as were specifications of the car. Now all we have to do is test drive the car, or at least buy one!

550-official.jpg

The 550 is China’s first ‘international car’, the car which will clearly shape China as a make it or break it car producing country. The car was designed in the UK, by the hands of Ricardo 2010 who eventually became under SAICs control. From what we believe, the Roewe 550 will eventually be branded as an MG, and then sold into overseas markets, we have heard rumors of the Roewe brand actually being launched in overseas markets, but we cant say for sure.

The Roewe 550 is available in four different packages:

  • 550 Standard - 140,280rmb (manual trans)
  • 550D - 150,280rmb (manual trans)
  • 550S - 150,680rmb (auto trans)
  • 550D - 160,680rmb (auto trans)
  • 550G - 180,980rmb (auto trans)

Tomorrow we will translate the Roewe 550’s spec sheet, although its looking like the 550G is the model with all the trimmings (airbags in every place possible) and the others only lacking certain items, which is reflected by the minor differences in the price range. The prices are a little higher than CCT expected, but not by much. We really cant wait to get behind the wheels of a Roewe 550 and tell the world what the ride is like.

Can’t wait until you write the review either (and see if it can really do 0-100 in around 8.5)! - However, getting the feeling that since people are already putting deposits down, and the factory probably just started pumping these cars out, it might be a while until there is enough inventory for you to go and test drive one :-/

Eagerly waiting for the translation of the specifications though! - Really interested in knowing why the 20K rmb jump between the D and G…just a few more airbags?…hoping the D has some airbags :-p

550G is much high than I expected, others are very attractive. Ash will surely give you a full spec sheet, this simple one above is a preview.

hmm….doesnt seem like you get alot for 20K rmb….. 4 more airbags, TPMS, and slightly larger wheels…hopefully full spec will show more :-D… then again by american standards those options for an additional 2.9K USD I suppose would be well received…

Vehicle is ok, but the car looks a bit heavy to me. Hopefully, the powere is sufficient. We won’t worry in the US….according to what I have read, SAIC will be one of the last Chinese car companies to market…even if their cars are very good it will be hard for them to make their mark…it isn’t China.
