China Car Times has decided, the MG3 SW is going to be the car that makes MG into a well known brand in China. It wasnt a long hard, thought out decision, it was a rather easy decision to make actually.
You see, MG have started an agressive media campaign for the MG3 SW, if you’re in China right now we can bet at least 100USD per person that you’ve seen this advert at least 50 times before you brushed your teeth this morning. Although the later may well be a slight exaggeration on behalf of China Car Times, but on a serious note the advert (and various other MG3 SW adverts) are getting massive amounts of coverage. They are being played on national Chinese television at peak times, when young families in need of a rugged motor are more than likely to be watcing. Again, China Car Times finds himself watching the advert again in the elevator on the way to the office, both inside the lift and again when I press the button to go down, or up.
So how is all of this media attention going to help NAC MG sell more MG3 SW’s? Well, for a start they are targetting it at just the right audiences; office elevators (white collar workers) prime time TV (white collar workers after TV), and in tradional print media. Roewe went from being an unknown brand all over the world, to being a reasonbly well known brand in China in the space of 3 months thanks to an agressive advertising policy. MG are doing the same, but instead of showing off their MG7 sedan, they are showing China their mini hatchback crossover.
The MG7 never got this amount of media attention when launched, that was a mere ‘wooooo, look we made a car‘ that gained a short (but sweet) amount of time in the press, and in adverts. The change in media perception for MG is nothing short of a complete turn about for Nanjing MG. This time the message is clear ‘Wooo, look we made a car, and we’re going to sell thousands of them‘ Obviously China Car Times jests, however, it will be amazing for potential clients to visit the MG dealerships to see the MG3 SW and then think they’ve stepped into an upmarket brands dealership. MG dealerships are very luxurious, the service and attention to detail is very much what you would expect from Bentley, Jaguar, Mercedes etc.
In short, as the advert says, the MG3 SW is a car that crossed boundries and went on the market and will no doubt go on to be a massive sales hit for MG. We think its safe to say, MG is back.

I haven’t seen the commercial yet. I was watching an old Rockets vs bucks game on tv this morning.
It’s good to see that the former Rover Streetwise is still alive. It looks like the Rover 200, on which the car is based, will never get out of production, great to see. I have a Rover 200 from 1998 and am still unbeleivable happy with it, it has already 330.000Km driven and still no problems, I also have a 2004 MG ZR MKII (also based on the Rover 200), and this one is even better. So if the quality of the MG 3SW will be the same as my 2 car’s, than the Chinese people have a great car that they can buy. I love it and it’s good to see that it’s again in production. But I think they won’t come to Europe anymore, because in the time when MG-Rover still existed, the press didn’t liked the Rover 25 / MG ZR, becaus in their opinion it was passed it’s lifetime, I don’t see why that has to be a problem. But in the modern world the lifetime of car’s is very short, and if car’s are produced longer than everybody is negative about them…… but a car that’s longer produced is better than a new one, because all problems that the technic etc. of the car could have, have been fixed during it’s liftime and facelifts.
It’s a great car, and that’s it. Well done MG for taking this car in production again.
A good car that deserves to do well.
Good luck to them.

Not seen the ad either yet, but I saw the actual car the other day. Best car on Chinese roads to date looks great compared to everything else bobbing about.
Its nice to see so much time and effort being put into (finally) kick starting the brand, and I wish MG all the best with the new Street Wise.
The car is by far the best of its class out here in China, but what on earth were they (MG) thinking when they came up with the logo for the new button on switch array? Answers on a postcard…..
I have a picture, but dont know how to attach it!
I keep harassing MG for a tester, but nothing has been forth coming yet!
If any NAC MG people are reading, and I know you do, send us a tester!
Oh wow. I didn’t realize China was so full of Suburu loving lesbians. So hot. Can’t wait to visit. Much love.
Charlie,
Speaking as a 100% hetrosexual male who really likes Subaru automobiles, I can honestly say I am shocked the pre-requisite to be a lesbian to appreciate a Subaru.

subtext of ads is very similar — and the car looks like a Subaru as well!
