The legendary Mazda RX8 has finally gone on the market, priced at a rather reasonable 380,000rmb (manual( to 390,000rmb (6 speed auto) according to media reports from earlier today.
FAW will be selling the RX8 in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Ningbo, Hangzhou and Beijing officially very shortly, we’re not so sure about other places. In comparison, the Nissan 350Z is reportedly 580,000rmb and only managed to sell two cars in 2007, so perhaps the RX8 will fair better than the Nissan. Well what are all the RX8s on the road already in Shanghai then? Does this mean that the RX8 is now being produced in China?
Are you sure about the 350Z? I’ve seen at least one around my neighbourhood in Shanghai.
Yes. According to a news report I read yonks ago. Some maybe grey market imports though. Ive seen one on the road, also had Shanghai plates on it.
The RX8 is an import, the others may be gray imports, Ive never seen one in China myself.
I cant find the original article, so I removed the line, for now!
Theres a few RX8s around GZ as well, most likely gray market ones…… seen more of them than 350Zs
That’s strange, as I have Chinese car magazines dating back to over a year ago which list the RX-8 as being available then for 380k.
Im in Shanghai today, and already seen a few on the roads….
I can assure there are quite a few on the roads here!
Gerald, the magazine you’re referring to - I saw one (probably the same) over a year ago in a pizza hut lobby, was reviewing cars and especially sports cars in China and yeah, it listed an RX-8, but I think then the MSRP was ~400k rather than 380k..could be wrong. Anyways, I have seen RX-8s in Shanghai a year ago and I’m sure it’s not a “just now available” thing.
I have seen 2 350Z models in Shen Zhen and 1 in Guang Dong area. I think they moved more than 2.
