Nissan Qashqai selling fast in China
Dongfeng Nissan have a capacity of only 30,000 Qashqais per year, but it seems that they will soon sell out of cars in 2008. Currently various areas in China are running out of certain colors, in some areas of China Qashqai buyers may have to wait from 10 to 30 days to pick up their Qashqais.

Currently the Qashqai comes with a 2.0l engine, but Nissan plan to launch a 1.6l engine later in the year but this model will be without the CVT gearbox and will have a 4 speed gearbox instead.
China Car Times recently purchased a Qashqai, and had to wait only a few days to pick it up, a full review of that coming up soon!

Is it “Kash Kai”, “Chash Chai”, “Kash Chai”, or “Chash Kai”??? I am baffled…
It’s part of their marketing plan, “Keep ‘em guessing! That’s wut I say!” said the CEO when asked, “Why choose this name?”
Then he tucked into a ball and rolled off into the sunset.
Cashcow!
Took mine offroading (well, upsome rock strewn dirt tracks!) and it was much fun!
Im lovin’ the cow!
How much was it anyway?
18.8 Wan = 180,800rmb + tax insurance + plates I think it was just over or under 210k
I heard an interview with someone from Dongfeng Nissan on Chinese radio a while back where they were discussing the Qashqai. They talked about how well it was selling (above expectations), and also mentioned that they’re going to put delay introducing the 1.6L. Though he didn’t exactly say it, it’s not hard to guess the reason – there’s no reason to introduce a lower profit model when they can barely keep up with demand of the current one.
Gerlad,
The Qashqai has a production limit of 30,000 vehicles per year in China – chances are that will get raised!
The Qashqai has taken the place of the previous generation Mitsubishi Outlander – a small city SUV thats got the looks and the go. A shame the Outlander piled on the pounds in its latest vastly overweight guise, otherwise I probably would have had one. Thankfully the ‘Cow came along.
Hey Ash! I forgot to ask, what kind of mileage are you getting with yours? You have the 4WD model, is that right?
Im getting around 9.2l around the city, but when my wife comes with me the AC just has to be on! That pushes it up to 10L mark.
When I drive like an utter miser, ive seen it as low as 6.7l.
I opted for the 2wd model – Qingdao maybe hilly, but its hardly 4×4 territory. If I lived in a colder/icey place, or a flood prone area I’d have probably gone for the 4×4 model!
That’s pretty good mileage for an SUV – I agree that 4WD isn’t needed for most, for some reason I thought you were in dongbei!
I’m getting around 10.5-11.0 with my Mondeo on my daily commute. That’s with AC running when needed and my semi-lead foot. I haven’t yet had a chance to do a long road trip to see what the highway mileage is like – 6th gear only comes into use when you go over 90.
Well on my last tank I got around 9.0-9.2!
I made a concious effort of taking it easy on the starts, and to also do a better job of maintaining constant speed. It looks like these efforts have paid off.
I guess it also helps that it’s cooling down over here, so there’s no need to use the AC as much.
Gerald,
Ive been flying around lately, and getting 10.2/10.3l
Perhaps it doesnt help that Ive been driving with a Thule bike rack that weighs 35lbs on the back of my car….
I won’t argue with the looks – it’s the best looking compact SUV sold here.
For a while, it was looking like they might bring the Ford Kuga over – that’s another great looking SUV.
