JAC goes off the rails, makes monster car!

We have said many a good word about JAC’s design team, the company that brought us the excellent Bin Yue, and their upcoming small cars are a treat on the eye as well. But the above monster appears to have been a complete and utter mistake, we wonder if JAC executives are groaning in their offices now that this Chysler 300C and Mercedes E-Class monster has made it into the media!

OMFG … how can they even do that? I’d burry myself and then shoot me if i’d even thought about that front as a designer!

There is not one redeeming feature of this vehicle forward of the A pillar.
This beats the 90’s frog eyed Ford Scorpio and the Pontiac Aztek in the ugly stakes by miles.
Has this been cobbled together by a competitor, given a JAC badge and sneakily parked on the street for people to laugh and cringe at?

It does have a passing resemblance to a Chrysler, but not a 50’s chrylser like the 300 but a 1934 Chrysler Airflow.

I hope this is a joke because this is the ugly crap I ever seen.

They did a good job copying the Benz in the rear - they should’ve stuck with it for the front, rather than switching to a different car.

Front is different. Bloggers who whine we copy you, then whine when we try other better ideas. I tell you front of Ford Licoln is ugly crap yet no one complains, people with bad taste or win at gambling buy today.

not quite bad to me, at least something quite exotic but maybe ugly to other people. chin lau has a good point.

CCT has heaped praise on JAC in the past. This model is a train wreck.

    My Eyes….

That is horrible in so many ways.

  • Boeis said:

By different you mean terrible right? It’s not about you Chinese poorly copying every design (and you can’t deny you don’t), but its when you decide to be “original” that you make something a blind person wouldn’t be seen in.

You are obviously blinded by your nationalism, yes?

It looks like you forgot to turn on your sarcasm radar.

I thinks somebody’s laughing at some of you in Beijing. For some DUMB reason I think this was not done at JAC…Maybe a weekend design expo from one of the guys on the floor, the fit and finish is way too bad to be JAC. I do like the grill, reminds of the grill at a BBQ place I ate at in K City.
Kudos! I do have to say I’ve seen more, no better designs here lately! Being off the board for 6-7 months has its benifits.
Keep up the good work Ash. Jim

It looks like a rejected Mitsuoka design….

Looks to me like they hired the head designer from SOAR. http://www.chinacartimes.com/2007/04/25/a-sight-for-soar-eyes-a-look-at-soar-autmotives-vehicles/

  • Ash (author) said:

Lex, thanks for that - Mitsuoka is exactly who I was thinking of but never put it in the article!

  • Dennis said:

James May on the Mitsuoka Galue:
“[...] This car does make me smile. It’s not taking itself too seriously. It’s just like a bit of fun - a bit like one of those tribute bands. Born again: Led Zed, The Strolling Bones. Like those bands, it knows it’s not the real thing. But more importantly it knows that you know it’s not the real thing. And anyway, at the the end of the evening you’re still just as drunk and you still had a great time, but it only cost you a fiver!”

Wondering if he had said the same about this one …

    Ash,
I guess we all see things in a much different view.
This copy of the 300-C is much more elegant. The 300-C was a smaller copy of the Bently Turbo, but JAC has refined the appearance by adding more UK style. It presented it with a bit of 70’s style Jaguar both back and front and does offer more appeal.
The 300-C was a baby bently copy that looked like it was crushed from the front and back, but still retained much of the turbo bently styling.
The JAC version adds a touch of class and even my wife approves of this version :-)
