Guangzhou Autos are eager to start their own branded car range, and they appear to be going about it in the right way. Guangzhou have signed deals with Toyota to use the 08 Camry platform, and they are now on the verge of signing a contract with Fiat to take control of an auto platform, sources close to the deal, which has yet to be signed, say that platform may actually be the old Fiat Siena platform that Nanjing Auto and Fiat worked on until recently.
Guangzhou may be aiming for the mid size sedan segment with the Camry based car, from 2.0l to 3.0l sized cars, but if Guangzhou snag the Fiat platform they could also be working on 1.3l to 1.6l sized cars which would make for a cheap low end compact or hatchback car.
Looks like it’s the Alpha Romeo 166 platform discontinued last year.
