Shanghai Maple, a sub brand of Geely, have finally made a car that actually looks pretty good! Previous Maples were of dubious designs, perhaps relating back to their issue of borrowed designs (namely the Citroen ZX), but this latest refit actually makes the old girl look good again.
The Maple is set to be priced between 40,000rmb and 60,000rmb, so essentially its a bargain bin car, and for that price, we think it actually looks pretty good. Technology wise, its basic, but it does have ABS+EBD, air conditioning, and a single unit CD/Radio. You cant go wrong for the money!

Looks like an old Citroen ZX with a new BMW 1-series back grafted on to it!
Exactly what I was going to write but you beat me to it. Come on Ash I think you may need glasses.
Do you think he can go around saying Maple copies designs, like the Cadillac, the Citroen ZX, and the 1 series BMW willy nilly?!
Totally agree. Especially the back screams BMW-1 series
Anyone knows what happened to the lawsuit Peugeot-Citroen launched against Shanghai-Maple?
It seems Geely was clever and instead of copying a design of a car (Citroen ZX), the company exploited key Chinese suppliers and stole the mechanical structure of the Fukang!
Pal!! wheres your great Autoindex site gone too??? And no, its still ugly.
Well, I’ll agree it’s an improvement over the old design, but beyond that? Sorry, but…………..no. Spend a little more money (around 60,000rmb or so) and get a Geely 5 door King Kong. A MUCH BETTER car and much better looking. I just happened to drive one this morning and what a pleasant surprise! Without a doubt the best driving, best “feeling” Geely I have ever tested. Nice power steering (almost TOO light but easy to flick the car around), good brakes, comfortable to sit in, nice ergonomics (I do like the center dashboard arrangement) and a nice quiet engine with decent power (for a 1.5 liter). LOTS of room when you fold the split rear seat down AND the seats fold completely flat. What a car for the price……..and very nice to look at in person (the charcoal gray color is especially nice). If you live in China, check this car out - you won’t be dissapointed.
