The latest on Zotye

zotye-multipla8.jpgZotye must have been studying Chery over the past few months, as some of the methods that Zotye are currently using are very similar to what Chery did when they first opened their doors. Chery opened their automobile making business on the back of an out of date Seat Toledo bought from Mexico, Zotye on the other hand, claimed rights to the Daihatsu Terios SUV, and made their own version which subsequently sold very well. Later on, Zotye purchased Jiang Nan Autos which made the currently out of production first generation Suzuki Alto, as well as being a mass producer of coaches, buses, and MPV’s. Suzki Alto production ended very quickly, but from that Zotye gained a massive factory from which to produce two cars. The new cars that Zotye have lined up, arent exactly new cars, they are the Lancia Lybra, and the first generation Fiat Multipla, far from handsome cars, but if priced well you can sell anything to anyone no matter how it looks.

Whilst Zotye are not a massive player in the Chinese market as of yet (although they are a major SUV seller, but based only on one model) they have been making waves overseas, especially in Egypt, and South America. The further addition of new models such as the Multipla, will only strengthen sales for Zotye both in China and overseas. Zotye are certainly one to watch!

Although some days we do wonder, how do you pronounce Zotye?

Yes, Zotye has a unique zip and is worth watching. And, as far as I can tell they went about obtaining rights to build cars, and to produce the Terios, it in a more legitimate manner than Chery’s start up.
But your mention of, “Suzki Alto production ended very quickly” is puzzling. Didn’t they just come out with an upgraded Alto this year after years of producing the old version?
