Imported SUV sales up 62% – Landrover big winner

The Chinese SUV market might actually be the only SUV market in the world where demand for full size, or large imported SUV’s is actually gaining ground rather than loosing ground in record numbers.

From Jan to Oct 2008, China imported 179,900 SUV’s, which is a 62.2% increase on the same period from a year earlier. Imports of regular vehicles (sedans, hatches etc) increased by 16.9% to 127,500 vehicles over the same period. Imports of small minibuses are at 20,800, an increase of 40.41% over the Jan to Oct 2007 period.

Sales of Landrover SUV’s are up by an amazing 95% to 3414 vehicles, which has set a new record for Landrover sales in China, showing that the new sales tax on big engined cars hasn’t affected car buying for the rich in Chin. In August 08, Landrover sold 1500 cars, which was an amazing 176% increase over August 07.
