Toyota Highlander to be made in PRC next year

08highlander Toyota Highlander to be made in PRC next yearThe Toyota Highlander was previously introduced into China as an import only model, however, with the SUV segment hotting up between Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, Toyota appear to have plans to manufacture the Highlander in China to make it more competitive with the Honda CRV, and the Nissan X-Trail, both of which are its biggest competitors in China.

The addition of the import tax on big engined cars, has made the Highlander much less competitive against its domestically produced rivals, producing the car in China should see the 3.5l V6 Highlander drop in price from around 350,000rmb to a more reasonable 230,000rmb and rising price range.

The Highlander will be produced on the existing Toyota Camry production line in Guangzhou.

Could a Chinese made Highlander be the next car in the CCT stable? There is a high possiblity!

You think so? I quite like it myself! I saw the bigger version, the Toyota Sequoia, a few weeks ago on the road. I was in awe at its vastness.

      I agree with Hunxuer
      totally bland!!!
and worse, this even resembles the previous SantaFe
      .
I’ve driven this vehicle, the V6 is no big deal… and suspension is way too soft, even for an mid SUV. But hey, it’s a Toyota SUV, not made to carve turns in California hills, so that’s forgivable
      .
in the US, they make the Highlander with I4′s… now THAT must be horrible!!!

It’s so “meh” that the PLA thugs won’t be seen in them and still prefer to park in front of the Friendship Store in their Prados, Cayennes and Land Cruisers ;^)

One of the best looking SUVs in China for the price. I highly doubt it will be in the 230,000RMB price range. That would put price pressure on the smaller RAV 4. It would be a steal compared to the CRV which is what I am considering but still too expensive.

I decided to buy this one, and trade my Qashqai in.

My family is expanding, I need more trunk space (pref 7 seats) for baby stuff. Plus I spend a lot of time outdoors so I need for it to go offroad occasionally (rutted tracks – not boulder hoping) Im thinking the 3.5 V6 would be cool, but unneeded so perhaps the 2.5 4cylinder, however its a heavy vehicle.

The other close contender is the new Honda Odyssey, but the third row of seats is pretty useless, and I like the high riding position of my Qashqai which the Highlander has. Im open to suggestions though, 7 seats, can take light offroad (i.e. not on tarmac roads) and is sub 350,000rmb.
