Zotye Multiplan – We love it
The original Fiat Multipla was the ugliest, foulest, stomach churning car to ever hit the automotive market, the second generation version gained a massive (somemight say huge) update, making it actually quite pallatable. Pperhaps the world wasn’t quite ready for one of Fiats more daring designs, but those who bought the first, and second, Fiat Multipla enjoyed it for its room, and reasonable comfort levels. Fiat sold their Multipla designs onto Zotye earlier this year, and Zotye have finally launched their Multipla based MPV. Zotye plan to have their version of the Multipla, now renamed the Multiplan, in production by the end of December at their Chang’sha factory, from what we understand, many of the parts for the Multiplan are being sent from Italy, where they will be assembled in Changsha. The Fiat Palio, which was formerly in production with Nanjing-Fiat, is to be also made by Zotye. The Palio will however be renamed ‘Zotye Party’
We have to appluad Zotye for there Multiplan MPV, they’ve taken the best of the Multipla, and taken away the worst, making it their own MPV in the process. No pricing, or engine specifications have been announced yet, but we can guess that it will be around 90,000rmb, and will come with a 1.6-2.0l Mitsubishi engine, or even the original Fiat engines if they were included in the deal.

I thought the original Multipla – well this most recent generation anyway (Multipla has a history back to the 1950′s) was very original, fresh and full of character
The model you show here only has a different ‘face’, but loses the indiviuality
Hi Ash, Zotye calls it MUTIPLAN and not Multiplan. Strange. I missed that one also the first time read it. Greetings! Erik.
Erik,
So it is! Thanks for pointing it out!
Don’t say that the original Multipla was ugly like everyone also thinks so. Like many people, I thought the original was a stunning piece of original design that looked fabulous from every angle. The dumbed down facelifted version is a crime against good design and Fiat’s most cowardly act in their history. In a hundred years, it’s the original people will marvel at when they see it in a museum.
Androo – the original multipla was rancid.
Then you should take a good look at the ORIGINAL ’56-’69 600 Multipla-an ugly little bugger with an 800cc power pack, but very practical and way ahead of its time. I can remember one of my high school teachers buying one, he was also an ugly little bugger, but behind the times.
Have owned a an original Multipla for 8 years(not the 56-69 version) and think its great. Do not like the new look bonnet etc but feel they should have put rear disks on the new one because the brakes are not good enough. If Zotye see this and add the disks I might even buy one.
Its just a Multipla made elsewhere! Enjoy!
I have just traded in my 2001 Multi for a new “Facelift” model and can tell you that they may look different but the heart is still the same. The car is without doubt the most practical car I have ever owned and the cameraderie amongst fellow Multi owners is second to only probably the VW Beetle owners!
I even help organise the UBB (Ugly Bug Ball) where we meet up and raise money for kids charities each year at Billing Aquadrome Northampton in May. Check out http://www.multiplaowners.co.uk for further details…
Ugly…its got a face only a mother could love…
Zotye look like they will have a pretty comprehensive line up by the end of 09!
es una copia de la fiat multipla
edgar: Didn’t you read how Fiat sold Zotye their design. It’s not a copy.
