Chery A3 gets 5-star crash test rating
In what must be a great week for the Chinese car industry, the Roewe 550 received a 5-star crash test, as did the Chery A3. The Roewe 550 is based off the Rover 75 platform, where as the Chery A3 was designed and built in China (Although, Pinnafirina, and possibly Ricardo were helping Chery with designs and engineering)
The Chery A3 performed extremely well in the CNCAP testing, which tests vehicles in a similar process to the European NCAP testing, but CNCAP tests at the lower speed of 54KM/h 56KM/h.
The A3′s five star rating make it the only Chinese car priced at under 100,000rmb to gain a 5 star rating since testing began on Chinese cars.

The test looked like it was done in a warehouse.
Ash did you mean 56KM/h ?
results in this new test
Mercedes C class : 47.8 (5 Stars)
VW Bora : 47.2 (5 stars)
Roewe 550 : 45.5 (5 Stars)
Chery A3 : 45.3 (5 Stars)
BYD F6 : 42.7 ( 4 Stars)
JAC Bingyue : 32.2 (3 Stars)
Zoty 2008 : 30.5 (3 Stars)
Congrats to Roewe, Chery and Byd….. Jac and Zoty, still work to do but at least they fronted up and have something to improve on.
Be careful: at least two tests are described in the press as Euro NCAP, as they are in reality Euro R94 tests. The main difference is the speed of the collision (56 km/h in stead of 64 km/h).
These are the Irito/Niciamt test of the Brilliance M2 (BS4, Splendor, Junjie) of February 2008 and the CATARC (Chinese test institute) test of the Great Wall Hover of July 2007. Even Great Wall itself speaks about a Euro NCAP 4 stars rating for the Hover, a big mistake.
There is no way that the standard of the crash test is the same as in europe.
Who said it is the same standard ?
The main point is that Chery’s newest model (A3) did well in this test, provided that Chery’s older models such as QQ and A5 did bad even in this test before.
Don’t trust Chinese made cars!
My dogs won’t even eat rawhide from China!
You don’t have to trust it if you are living outside China, this test is a crash test for China, if it passes this test then it’s good enough for Chinese market. If Chinese cars were to enter Western Europe or North America they will go through seperate crash tests there and the result is we don’t know. But given Chery’s record as one of the leading home grown brand, this news could potentially spur sale growth of Chery cars in the comming months and consequently increase Chery’s market share in China.
Therefore some of you here don’t have to panic that some Chinese cars pass crash tests.
Just to let you know that rawhide is not meant to be consumed by any animals or even humans, it is used in leatherworking such as making shoes, belts and drums.
Rawhide in the Us is sold in petsmart, petland, petco, and
walmart as rawhide dog chewwies, says so right on the package. You must be blind!
Yep, rawhide is a dog chew for healthy teeth. Leather is used for boots and other items that you can wear.
I’ve never been to Macys and seen rawhide coats or boots.
Someone drank to much last night or they are just that ignorant. Btw, Chinese cars are pure garbage. Lowering test standards to below real driving speeds is not the way to pass a crash test!
Lowering test standards to below real driving speeds is not the way to pass a crash test!
Excuse me , did you check out the American NHTSA NCAP ?
“Full-width frontal impact crash test – NHTSA and OSA currently use this procedure for their full-width frontal impact collisions. Dummies are seated in the driver’s and front passenger seat. The vehicle crashes head-on into a rigid concrete barrier at 35 mph (56 km/h). Afterwards, researchers measure and evaluate the impact on the dummies’ head, chest, and legs.”

The average speed is 35-40 mph. So test speeds would be
at average speed. In The US, test are done by the government and by nonprofit
Insurance test which are more
like actual driving!
Chinese cars are a form of
population control!
Why did you initially say this ?
“Lowering test standards to below real driving speeds is not the way to pass a crash test!”
Now you’re changing your words. But nvm
May I take this opportunity to remind you that there are still plenty of countries around the world still don’t have crash test standards at all except for a few places like Europe, Japan, Australia, the US.
Call me biased if you like but I think it is pretty decent that China has a crash test standard, given that China’s auto industry only rise up recently.
I know some sour grapes out there like you like to reiterate that line “Chinese cars are a form of
population control!” But it doesn’t matter anyway since Chinese cars themselves will continue to improve.
My Mom is Thai. So, yes I do know that some countries don’t test. I also know that those countries are still driving motorcycles.
The Nonprofit Insurance test in the Us are what I go by.
Government test are at lower
speeds like Chinese.
