Brilliance FRV Crossover
Brilliance are doing some amazing things in China recently, their FRV for example had an order book of over 5000 cars per month at one point. Brilliance now have two new models in the works to boost their FRV line up, the first one of which is this fantastic Crossover:
The Brilliance FRV in standard form is a fantastic car, but the FRV Crossover is an amazing improvement. As for the engine, the FRV Crossover will be packing a 1.5l 1.6l Mitsubishi model, the same as the standard non crossover 1.6l.
The compact Crossover market was originally opened by the Suzuki SX4, but the quick additions of the VW Polo Cross, and Livina Crossover has seen the market segment explode with demand from consumers, and also a greater choice of cars especially from Chinese manufacturers.
The FRV Crossovers initial success may be short lived, both Chery and Geely both plan to launch crossovers this year, Chery will be launching the Faira Crossover and Geely will be bringing the Panda in crossover form to the table.
Edit: Its also come to light that Brilliance will be adding a 1.5l option to the line up as well as the 1.3l, and 1.6l offerings.
Hey Ash, you have me a bit confused…….the FRV crossover has a 1.5 engine? The regular FRV has a choice of 1.4 or 1.6 engines right now – is the 1.5 going to be a new engine just for the crossover? Regardless, the crossover IS a nice enhancement of a already beautiful car. The FRV is ABSOLUTELY one of the best bargains in China right now – beautiful, comfortable, well designed, gas friendly……and sales figures show that many chinese buyers agree with me!
Jon – it seems that the news at lunchtime differs from now. Brilliance will offer a 1.5l, as well as 1.3l and 1.6l engines.

Interesting……almost seems like overkill to have THREE engine sizes so close together – and available in one model (four, if you count the 1.8 in the upcoming sports model). I suppose it follows the BMW concept – multiple engine sizes in the 3 and 5 series for example. As far as me and a car……if Brilliance would offer a 1.3 automatic for the FRV, the waiting would be over – that would be my car. Even though I prefer a small car (1.3l or under in engine size….you know, global warming and such) I might make an exception in this case and get the 1.6 automatic FRV!! I REALLY love this car, I’ve test driven it – it is truly a impressive automobile. Come on Brilliance – there ARE customers out there who prefer smaller, more gas friendly engines WITH the comfort of a automatic…..put a automatic in the 1.3 FRV and it will sell!!
I think the reason Brilliance don’t is that they have problems with gearboxes. Is the 1.3 their own engine or of Mitsubishi stock? Anyway coupled to the kind of automatics available to Brilliance it would kill any remnants of performance.
All Mitsubishi models, there is an auto FRV in the works from what I hear.
In South America we have similar small fake off-roaders: Citroën C3 X-TR, Fiat Palio Weekend Adventure, Ford Fiesta Trail, Peugeot 206 SW Escapade, Renault Sandero Stepway, Volkswagen CrossFox…

i am going to buy this car so i’d like to know more about it. but really i like its amazing appearence so much but iam hesitated about some items like the stability of it and the most speed on the road.is it a durable car or not?
