VW to launch stretched Magotan

5 January 2009 No Comment

To capture a slice of the ever growing ’slightly stretched’ sedan market, VW are planning to launch a stretched VW Magotan. If you are not familiar with the Magotan, it is essentially the European Passat, but with a name change to account for the previous generation Passat also being on sale.

Perhaps due to the success of the previous generation Passat, and with it still being on sale at a lower price, the Magotan has not enjoyed a great success in China when compared to its previous generation. Sales could be considered neither hot, nor cold, but somewhere suitably in between. Hopefully for FAW-VW, a stretched Magotan will increase sales. Slightly stretched sedans have become very popular lately, with Ford, Volvo, and Audi all launching stretched models.
