Dongfeng triumphs in 2008


Dongfeng, the joint venture partner to Honda, Nissan, Citroen and Peugeot, has sold an impressive 1.04 million cars in 2008. The majority of sales appeared to have come from its Japanese JV partners, Honda and Nissan. 2008 was a bumper year for Dongfeng, with sales being up an impressive 11% over the previous year, Dongfeng out performed GM sales increase.

Dongfeng Nissan sales rose by 29% with car sales of more than 350,000 units, and Dongfeng Honda reported a rise of 30% with more than 160,000 units being sold in ’08.

Dongfeng’s JV with PSA was the worst performer, with sales being down 14% on the previous year, but still remains profitable despite the down turn.

    Dongfeng’s luck turned when it entered the joint venture with Honda. The Dongfeng Yu’an minivan and pickups are also hot both at home and abroad.
    As for its own passenger cars, all we have seen in the media is one old photo shot of an elusive so-called “BF” sedan, which for some reason has never come to market.
