Taiwan’s Yulon to team up with Geely
Taiwan’s Yulon car company was until very recently partnered with GM, however, the latest round of economic uncertainty caused GM to pull out of the partnership and look towards China for greater returns on investment. Yulon have been approaching Chinese car manufacturers for someone to replace GM, and it appears that Geely may be in the running to be the first car maker from the Chinese mainland to enter the Taiwanese market.
However, the plan for Geely/Yulon appears to be different from conventional automotive producing partnerships. It appears that Geely/Yulon will produce small sub 1.5l cars together in Taiwan, and the finished cars will carry Yulon badging but will be sold as new through second hand car markets in Taiwan.
Certain Taiwanese media reports have stated that car imports from China to Taiwan are banned, but the import of car parts is not, therefore it could be that Geely will start sending CKD (Complete Knock Down) kits for Yulon to assemble in Taiwan.
