Chery sales down in 2008

Chery sold a mere 356,000 vehicles in 2008, a figure well below their target of 480,00rmb, and 6.5% below their 2007 sales figure of 381,000 cars sold in 2007. However, Chery did export 10% more cars in 2008, with Chery exporting 130,000 cars in ’08.

Chery chairman, Mr. Yin Tong Yue, was quoted as saying that cash flow will be the biggest resource in 2009, and he also expects a quickening of consolodation between Chinese car makers. On the positive side, Mr Yin believes that the slide in raw material prices will help keep costs down in 2009.

Despite the slow down in domestic Chery sales, Mr Yin says that Chery will continue with plans to expand abroad, especially in markets with fast developing automarkets.

Chery will launch 16 new models in 2009, CCT expects Chery to be able to improve on ’08 sales figures in ’09, especially with their launch of an interesting array of vehicles in ’09, vehicles such as the A3 hatchback are clearly set to win consumers.

It seems that Chery don’t have a clue what they’re doing. 16 new models in 2009 yet their sales are falling! How about concentrating on making a few good cars before the company goes bankrupt!

That’s true. All automakers are sales down in 2008. But the new launched Chery A3 is really smart and nice.

This is the problem with government owned auto companies. Since they are government owned, no one is held accountable and make some wacky crazy investments.

Compare this to privately-owned auto companies where someone is held accountable if the company loses money.

You mean like how DCX and GM are now sleeping with Uncle Sam? Somebody needs to fail, file papers and give the UAW the boot. PS it will still happen, you see you can GIVE away the money to the boys in Detroit but until the consumer comes in the front door and drops the cash it won’t happen. The way it should have happened the consumer should have got a instant rebate at signing. Trouble is most would have ran down the street to Toyota…So sad.

Dude, you can never expect a successful claim to some government owned auto company. They just won’t concern about it.
