Skoda to increase sales by 50%
Whilst other car makers in China are cautiously cutting their ’09 sales plans, Skoda are boosting their sales plans several fold to satisfy demand for the bargain brand. Skoda launched themselves into China in 2007, and have seen their sales explode as the motors flew off the forecourt.
Skoda sold an impressive 59284 cars in 2008, this might be a small number to other car markers in China, but it would be wise to remember that until late ’08, Skoda was a single model line up, the smaller Fabia was launched late into ’08. The 2008 sales figure is an impressive 117% increase on 2007 efforts. The Skoda brand should be celebrating, an excellent marketing team have obviously done a fantastic job in promoting the brand, and should be used as a case study for other European brands who wish to enter China.
Skoda are planning on building up their China range, the Skoda Superb is expected to see a Shanghai Auto Show launch in April this year. Skoda are also eager to improve their sales network, which currently stands at a meagre 80 dealers, but will be increased to an impressive 200 in 2009.
