Chery to launch 15 new cars in ’09
Chery sales did fall slightly in ’08, but plan to make a flying start in ’09 with the launch of 15 new cars, including 4 new engines and new CVT gearboxes.
2008 saw Chery sell 356,000 cars, which put them in 5th place in the Chinese market place. Chery also exported 135,000 cars to overseas markets, their popular Chery QQ model saw sales reach a new height of 133387 models. ISG models are under development, as are pure electric sedans, plug-in hybrids, and twin electric motor models. Chery are also working on hydrogen power systems.
Chery, like Geely, appear unwilling to put all of their new energy eggs into one basket, and haven’t gone down the road of using only hybrid or hydrogen, but plan to develop a range of technologies to satisfy the market demand.
2009 has also seen the launch of the Chery A5 BSG hybrid, but other models are also in development. It appears that 2009 will be a year of technological development for Chery, rather than a design year as ’08 was.
