Shanghai Show 2009 – Lots of new metal to launch

The Shanghai Auto Show will be held from April 22nd to April 28th 2009, and despite the poor economic outlook for 2009, Shanghai Auto Show is set to display plenty of fresh metal, both domestically made and imported. New domestically made cars set to launch are:
- Shanghai VW NMS – (New Midsize Sedan) Another new sedan from VW – Will the Chinese market ever tire of VW sedans?
- Dongfeng Citroen C5 – The C5 is finally to be made in China, and possibly its Peugeot cousin.
- Guangzhou Toyota Highlander – The large SUV is set to be produced in China, alongside the RAV4.
- FAW Toyota RAV4 – Once imported, now domestically made to go up against the Honda CRV, and the Qashqai
- Guangzhou New Honda Odyssey – Many pundits are saying this will be the US version of the Odyssey, but CCT expects it to be the facelifted Japanese market model that gets launched
- Beijing Hyundai i30 – A new compact from Hyundai
- MG6 – the hatchback brother of the Roewe 550, the most anticipated car of the show, the first MG to be launched in many years.
- Chery S16/QQ5 – The odd little hatchback, is set to be finally launched
- BYD F5 – Another compact model from BYD
- BYD M6 – BYD’s first venture into the MPV market, will BMW be upset about the name?
- Lifan 320 – Lifan’s most (in)famous model
A plethora of foreign made cars are expected to debut and be on show in Shanghai. The Porsche Panorama will see its world debut in Shanghai, as will several other cars.

VW sure has a confusing line up in China. It defies sense but then again their sales figures probably show otherwise!
I am going to make a diagram of their line up one of these days.
i am really looking forward to the BYD cars.
Hyundai is stepping into a VERY crowded market with the i30……lots of competition with the FRV, F3R, Excelle HRV, Geely HRV, Chery A3 hatchback, Nissan Livinia – and I can’t see the i30 being very price competitive with the competition either. Why don’t they consider the i10 or the Getz? Small car sales are on the rise (along with government based incentives for buying a small car), and the i10 would be GREAT for the crowded chinese city streets. Sorry Hyundai – bringing the i30 to China is not one of your better decisions. Nice car, but the wrong choice for the chinese market.
I would like to get info about the Shanghai Show 2009

Dear Sir / Mdn
I’m from Malaysia. I’m planing to visit your Auto Show Next Year as a incentive trip for my customers.
Can you please provide me with more details. Things like where to stay, local sight-seeing, lunch-dinner, where to go for a few beers at night.
Just to give you a clue. My budget is “economy status”
