Oh no they didnt – Dongfeng ‘sports coupe’ set to launch
Many people probably thought ‘Who in their right mind would launch this beast onto the market?‘ on seeing the Dongfeng Coupe at the Beijing Auto Show in 2006. Doubters will have their doubts eased, as it appears that Dongfeng are actually planning to put the monster into production, and on sale in 2009.
The monster, Coupe, probably would have looked like a good buy in 2004 when the Geely Beauty Leopard was initially launched, but in 2009 its a bit of a joke.
The Piano style rear trunk hatch has disappeared in the above photos, but were quite obvious on the concept model shown in Beijing. Many people were wondering just what the heck they did, and Dongfeng answered – Having a coupe is not the most practical of cars for carrying large items, so Dongfeng designed the piano style rear hatch to allow larger items to be carried the trunk. Genius.
Power for the Coupe will come in the form of a 2.4l Mitsubishi engine, which we have found is far from being a sports engine, and more akin to a wheezy, one legged old man with a severe heart condition.
We hope that this doesn’t get launched.

yellow? What’s with Chinese and yellow? Yellow doesn’t work with everything. Open your mind to different colors and maybe you be a little more creative..So backward with no style.
They just love yellow:
黄河
黄山
等等
Let’s hope that Dongfeng independent doesn’t lead with this one.
Do their market survey results really tell them that this could actually fly? Or is it just meant to increase showroom traffic, ie and attention grabber? If the latter is true then they should leave the bellows hatch where it was, and let everyone have a laugh as they try pumping it up.
1999 Hyundai Tiburon
I agree – this thing’s like the 1st-gen Tiburon on drugs.
I like this coupe
something like a mix of a Hyundai Coupe but with a BMW face
it makes me remember the Rolls Wagen
wth is this thing??
swamp thing hehehe….
CCT has been hearing multiple reports of these things being spotted out on the road. I saw one myself in Qingdao a few weeks ago, the rear has been redesigned, but the front is still…. interesting.
Production is likely to be happening at Rongcheng in Shandong province!
