Driving to Korea – possible?

Sometimes, even CCT has to ask the questions!

Is it possible to drive your Chinese registered car onto a ferry, unload, and drive around your host country as a Briton would do when taking the ferry to mainland Europe?

CCT is contemplating a Korean sojourn on the Weidong ferry, but can you drive up and onto the ferry to Korea, then drive around Korea on temporary plates, then return to China on the same way you came?

Because of security reasons and the red tape involved, I think it’s still a dream for the average tourist. From Korea to Japan via the Bukwan ferry has been a reality for some time now but modern day relations between China and Korea are still in their infancy.
Someday the highway that the Rev Moon Sungmyung dreamed of, between Japan and Paris, will become a reality. But that won’t happen until the dodos in North Korea wake up and see how beautiful roses can indeed smell.
One thing is for sure, and that is that there’s a ton of money to be made when these avenues begin flowing freely with traffic.
