Beijing Boy Steals Bus – Goes on GTA Style Rampage

From AFP:

BEIJING (AFP) — A 13-year-old Beijing boy commandeered a city bus when its driver stopped for a bathroom break, going on a wild joyride that left a trail of smashed cars and other damage, state media said on Monday.

The incident on Sunday morning began when a bus driver returned from the bathroom at a transport terminal in eastern Beijing to find his bus gone, Xinhua news agency said.

The vehicle had been driven off by the 13-year-old, who zigzagged through traffic, crashing into two cars on the road and about 10 parked vehicles, and knocked down two electricity poles, it said.

No one was injured in the incident.

“It was like watching a blockbuster movie when I saw the bus crashing into cars like a bulldozer,” Xinhua quoted a man surnamed Liu as saying.

“I threw my canteen and ran for my life.”

One of the parked cars was struck so hard that it was thrown through the front entrance of a local health clinic, shattering the building’s glass door, Xinhua said.

Passersby eventually kicked the bus door open and seized the boy.

“He was thin… and trembling, but did not say a word,” said a man surnamed Chen, who helped stop the bus.

The boy told police his surname was Chao and he was from the nearby city of Tianjin, the Beijing News said. Authorities were still trying to locate the boy’s parents on Monday, Xinhua reported.

Thank God he didn’t hit anyone. In such a densely populated area, what are the odds……it’s nothing short of amazing.
He’ll probably go on to be China’s version of race champion Daryl Waltrip, bad boy image and all.
