MG6 Sedan – Unveiled!

The first picture of a future MG6 sedan have been leaked to the internet via the auto.qq.com website. Further details on the MG range have not been released, but its widely rumoured that the MG6 will carry the Roewe 1.8T engine, as the MG6 is essentially an MG edition of the popular Roewe 550.
In 2009, SAIC plans to sell 45,000 Roewe vehicles, where as MG have been given a much lower sales target of just 10,000 vehicles. In 2008, Roewe sold 26007 vehicles, and MG sold 9232.
With cars such as the above MG6 hitting the market soon both in China and the UK/EU, its expected that the MG brand will jump far ahead of its Roewe counterpart.
Now the question remains, will the thousands of drivers across the EU who currently drive something from the MG Z Range trade their motor in for an MG6?

Its only a photoshop. Look at the wheels, front grille and right fog light.
Looks OK but the headlights could do with being a better defined shape. Something the last facelift ZS benefited from.
Looks quite nice, but I don’t know if I would change my MG ZR MKII for this one…..I have to see more pictures of it…..it looks fresh and modern, but I somehow miss a bit the MG feeling, but maybe when I see more pictures I will change my mind……
Revolutionary! Simply inspired! Not!
Looks like every…single…other…POS…nondescript…cookie cutter… mini sedan out there.
At first glance I thought it was a VW Bora or Jetta (whatever the differences are)
I really don’t like nice cars with small wheels. What are those, 15s? They seem well fit to the well also, maybe max 16 or 17 *maybe* – the tires look thinned out as it is.
I’m surprised a sedan MG6 exists for anything other than an export model. I assumed that the MG6 in China would be a hatchback only to made it different to the Roewe 550.
I can’t really understand why MG Roewe don’t have better sales. The MG 7 and Roewe 750 are both decent cars and the 550 is great. The less said about the MG3 the better. So far the whole project seems a bit of a failure. Other manufacturers are managed to sell more of a single model in a month than these brands with a model range in a year.
Ash – Please can you comment? With you contact you MUST really know if this is a genuine photo of the new MG6 or just a photoshop mock up?!
We all look forward to your response! Cheers

@ Mark: Brand recognition I suppose. A friend of mine went to check out the Roewe 550, raved about it, but when it came to putting his dollars down, he went with a SLK 200. At the end of the day, when you’re buying one item, it’s hard to justify going for something that has little heritage I guess! Perhaps the situation will improve over time..
Bit of a difference between the Roewe 550 and the SLK200 though….
Stick this car in the showrooms tomorrow and I’ll place an order. I’ve had the money in the bank for eighteen months now. My ZS is almost four years old and I normally change cars every three years. I can’t bring myself to buy anything else but an MG – certainly not a French car – as I’ve enjoyed owning my MG more than any other manufacturer. Get those workshops re-fitted at Longbridge and bring these cars into production. MG (and Rover) have a big following in East Lancashire and you can be sure that it will be popular round these parts…
Looks like a shopping trolley to me, I wouldn’t flog my ZS180 to get one.
Got my own website wrong – doh!
Looks like full circle! Back in the old days we had MG Rover now we have Roewe MG and a Rover(Roewe) badged as an MG! same old same old
I really like this car. I believe that this is going to be a huge success. I wish to compliment all the engineers and workers who have worked hard to produce such a fine car. I am sure that there will soon be a good response of orders for this car.
Best Wishes to all !
The MG ZS facelift model is far better in design than this car. The MG & Roewe cars need to look different. MG Sporty, Roewe General
