Brilliance working on 1.2 + 1.5 Turbo.
Brilliance are reportedly working on two new engines, and two new platforms. The first platform will be for the B Segment and will carry 1.8l and 2.0L engines. The two engines are expected to be naturally aspirated, but 1.8T and 2.0T turbos are expected to come along as well. An A segment platform is also to be deployed which will be able to take a 1.2l to 1.5l VVT engines, which are also likely to be turbo assisted.
Chinese consumers are likely to be buying sub 1.6L cars for the forseable future, as the goverment has halfed sales tax on these cars to encourage sales in a lagging economy. A smaller displacement engine, with the addition of a turbo will give performance on par with a larger displacement car, giving consumers the power they want, at a price they can afford.

Wow………….a mini-Brilliance is coming??? Cool that they’re going to do a 1.2T – but why not just turbo the already existing 1.3 in the FRV? In any case, if this mini-Brilliance (what else to call it?) is as successful as the rest of their cars, it’s going to be a BIG hit. Think about it – Brilliance quality, economical engine, good styling (I’m assuming here of course – but Brilliance hasn’t let us down yet)……FINALLY a small car that will be COOL to own – and is NOT a copy of something else!!
