Tianjin FAW to launch ‘New Xiali’ brand

For those readers who have visited the North Eastern city of Tianjin will be highly familiar with the Tianijn ‘Xia Li’ brand of cars that flood the streets. The local car marker is obviously quite (read as extremely) popular with the native populace, even though the top selling car is essentially an ancient (by motoring standards) Daihatsu Charade.

FAW are eager to take the Xia Li brand away from those dark days of Daihatsu Charade technology, and into a new era where funky, yet querky designs seem to be the order of the day.

The TFC-W will be one of the first cars that FAW will launch, a hatchback by nature, but from what we here it will offer the space of a sedan.

The engines offered for the TFC-W will be either a 1.0L 12 valve (3 Cylinder) or 1.3l 16valve (4 Cylinder) engines but will both be upto Euro5 emissions standards, which will be a major bonus in cities like Beijing where only Euro5 emissions standards cars are allowed to be sold. The TFC-H1 is the sedan version of the above hatch, and will come with the same engines. The launch date of these cars is expected to be the second half of 2009.
