Roewe 350: Truth at last?!

13 April 2009 9 Comments

China Car Times posted pictures of an unnamed SAIC model earlier this year, confusion reigned over what we were exactly looking at. Was it an electric mule (a lack of a tail pipe give us this clue), or some other SAIC mule.

Now the secret appears to be out, the pictures we posted appear to be the new Roewe 350, which in turn appears to be the Roewe N1 concept car. Eagle eyed editors at the Auto.Sohu portal have reported the Roewe N1 concept car, and test mule, are set to be the future Roewe 350, and also MG6. Size wise, it will be a compact sedan on par with the Focus saloon, and the current Mitsubishi Lancer.

IMG_0072Engines for the 350 are set to be a 1.3T and a 1.5T, which will deliver plenty of power, but will also fall into the sub 1.6l displacement segment where the government has slashed sales tax to encourage small car sales.
The 350 designer is reportedly a very young 21 year old, and has just graduated from college last summer, the 350 is clearly a car set to make his career.

The Chinese need to be more serious about car designs. There is talent, but much of it goes to waste thanks to the exec in companies like BYD.

If that’s the MG6, my intentions of going for that buy have been washed away – tiny wheels as per most chinese designs, 1.5L engine, and it’s suppose to be sporty? looks like crap, nothing innovative in there.

I’m crossing my fingers that April 20th proves this not to be the MG6 “sporty” MG7.

Let’s get an article about the new Mazda 6 (Ruyi) already. It came out yesterday in Mazda showrooms along with pricing. I test drove it, it was not as good as I expected it to be. The interior design wasn’t so attractive. It was a smooth and powerful drive though. The wheels at 16 inches made the car look a bit weird. They come in 3 models, all with 2.5L engines. They range from RMB 21.68 – 24.98.

How can this car be the MG6? The MG6 is meant to be the MG version of the 550. This car doesn’t seem to be 550 based. The N1 if this is it is most likely to be the Roewe 350 which would probably have to be either an MG4 or 5 (assuming that isn’t the former MG ZS).

Ahh..that photo looks a little nicer, I wish those fuckers weren’t standing infront of it though :) And where’s the rear shots! Engine specs? Why oh why can’t we have a 2.0T, *crosses fingers*

It seems that the N1 concept was the Roewe MG6. Check out autoblog!
