BYD S8 Convertible – Ready for the warm days!

BYD first unveiled their S8 soft top to the crowds at the Beijing 2006 auto crowds, who were blown away by the design. Not blown away in a ‘that design is totally awesome‘ way, but more of a ‘Jesus – They cloned a Merc, a Renault, and had a giant party!

The S8 is now ready for production, and will hit the market by mid summer according to Auto China. The S8 was originally known as the F8, but has now been slightly touched up ahead of production. Pricing is expected to be around 150,000rmb to 250,000rmb.

Engine information was posted here on China Car Times, be prepared to be impressed.

    I applaud the fact BYD made a hard top convertible, but I can’t stand the sight of this. What were they thinking when they started putting it together. I imagine the top probably leaks too. If VW’s EOS cabrio leaks, I doubt BYD could cobble this together properly.

    I will definitely give it a try.

    The side profile and the rear are taken straight from the Renault Megane CC. When will the Chinese come up with something original

  4. avatar aron says:

    @ Mike: They do. Look at all the other cars. It’s just plain ignorant to label a race using the products of one firm.

    @Mike: Stereotype/generalize much?

    @Mlke

    Firstly people here are not blind, we know that it is taken straight from Renault, in fact it has been repeated many times ever since 2006.

    Secondly, the Chinese can and do come up with original design, maybe you talk less and look around more it could have saved you from making that idiotic comment. Do I need to list them out ? You can look it for yourself, right ?

    Thirdly, it would be more appropriate to say ” When will BYD come up with something original ?” well since BYD loves copying (except for the e6).

    Does the top have a “no crush” sensor for luggage or kidnap-victim protection.

    nice car…. when BYD is opening a showroom in Karachi, Pakistan… people are gonna go crazy for Electric Car… here… much much light on your pocket…. and zero pollution….. and charge in 20 minutes… and convertible…. wat else a gentleman wants….????? one more thing china should spend its people’s sacrifice and hardwork and hard earned money more vicely and open up few TV channels… like BBC and CNN….. without media presence china is just another golden chicken(Slave) who give gold eggs every day….. rather than giving Trillions of Dollars to Bankrupted West……

  12. avatar Ali says:

    and why the heck china is copying Mercedes or any other CAr… if I were them…. i would simply open up any video game and get the Aerodynamic stylish design from there…. rather than copying those failed car companies…. choice is of china’s…. they wanna be like another Daewoo or Hyundai or they wanna be a great Car company…. that is confident enough to have its own Style….
