Haima SUV – First Glimpse

Haima are doing good things these days, but they are still happingly using their Mazda links to further their plans to become a large manufacturer in the next few years.
The Haima SUV is based on the Mazda Tribute, which in turn was based on the Ford Escape. The Haima SUV will come with a 2.0 VVT engine, gearboxes, or pricing have yet to be announced. The Haima SUV does look rather fantastic, and it would be a good choice of SUV for a small family, but will it come in 2WD or 4WD form we don’t know yet!
The Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape were far from being small vehicles, so we’re wondering if the 2.0L engine will be enough to move this small tank.

interesting redesign of the tribute!
.
these compact SUVs are quite capable.
The V6′s are more adequate, but those 2.0′s are quite enough. These are small SUVs, they are not made to stoplight races.
FYI, the 2.0 was sold in the US. It was slow and actually only got 1MPG less than the V6. And the Shifter is really bad.
@206
FYI, NO, FORD DOESN’T SELL THE 2.0 IN THE US!!!
there has never been a 2.0 for the Escape or the Tribute.
.
previously they had the 2.3 I4 and 3.0L V6 until 2007, which are both now the Duratec 2.5L and Duratec 3.0L V6
.
and about them being slow….
OMG, ou really seriouS about that?!?? no kidding…!??
OF COURSE the 4 cylinder were slow. And I’ve driven the 2.3L.
.
my point is that there are people that don’t really care about what’s the 0-60 time of these little SUVs, all they want is a decent daily transport, and the 2.0 fits just right for that purpose.
My friend has a V6 version here in China, it’s falling to bits after just two years of use. The gearbox wont go past 140kph without sending the RPM counter bouncing around like a demented loon.
I don’t want to be a troll, but after seeing Ash’s comment, I couldn’t help but reply. I drove a rental Ford Escape V6 across NY State once, it had truly atrocious performance. Actually, the journey started off great, with a rather unexpectedly pleasant interior and full-featured amenities, but it was so ridiculously slow, I could hardly keep up on the right(slow) lane of the highway, not to mention pass people! It was also a horrid gas guzzler. But if that V6 could hardly propel the Escape, I can’t imagine what it’d be like with a 2.0L! Sure it’d be “drivable”, but it must just be absolutely awful in terms of enjoyment.
either way, that’s my point.
If you are an enthusiast, you’d never by these cars.
This is a car my sister would probably like to drive, and she wouldn’t notice the difference between V6′s and I4′s.
My friend traded is in for a RAV4 today. I think he’s happy to have a Jap car again.
His Escape/Maverick was a powerful motor. Are they any good off road?
Also, Jackson, good to see you back here. Business keeping you busy?!
good to be back, my friend.
yes, very much, thank god, but not thanks to GM anymore!
I’ve quit GM on July/08, right before the bankrupcy rumors started around the media… hahah =)
My last project was the Hummer H3T, which truly is a fine truck, too bad Hummer is going down.
Hope things are going well for you too.
