Week Long Road Trip – Where to go?
China Car Times has just finished a 4 day long holiday that gave us a little time to relax on the beach and have some ‘me’ time, we hope everyone elses Dragon Boat Festival was a good one!
Over the holiday I realized I actually have a week off at the end of July, followed by a month long holiday in Europe. During that one week in July I am essentially a free man, and Im considering a solo road trip, but where to go?
Conditions:
- Must have good mountain bike areas
- Can be done within 5/6 days
- Takes in a couple of cities
The first route I thought of was Qingdao->Dalian(by ferry) -> Shenyang -> Changchun -> Chang Bai Shan -> Hu He Hao Te (Hohot) -> Beijing -> Qingdao
Most of these have some MTB areas, although I’m not too sure about Hohot, but I like Mongolia anyway. Total driving is probably around 4000km for this particular plan, but I am open to other ideas! Make a beeline for Guilin? Haul ass to Sichuan? Ideas via the comments box!

If you do make it to Beijing, drop me a line!
BJ is on the menu, Mongolia may have to be dropped. too far.
If you’re planning to visit BJ then you could also make a trip to Chengde which is only a few hours away by car. There are mountains in the area which should be good for hiking, but I’m not sure if they have good bike trails. It’s worth looking into though.
