New Chevrolet Sail spotted
Chevrolet has become GM China’s bargain brand and has turned into quite the opposite of it’s home market cousin with which it only shares a name, the products couldnt be anymore different. Chevrolet USA offers mid size sedans, gigantic trucks, vans, and the Camaro, Chevrolet China offers the Aveo, the Spark, the Cruze, and the Epica, and will soon get a new Chevrolet Sail to join the small car line up. Besides the Cruze, Chevrolet’s products are pulled from the GM Korea line up, and branded Chevrolet for the Chinese market.
The new Sail has been codenamed the SNG, with its full name being Sail NB NGS, NB standing for ‘notchback‘ (aka the adding of a trunk on a hatchback) and NGS stands for New Global Car, which means the Sail will see sales in other developing markets, such as Brazil. The new Sail will come with the choice of either a 1.2l, or a 1.4l engine according to media reports.

“Besides the Cruze, Chevrolet’s products are pulled from the GM Korea line up, and branded Chevrolet for the Chinese market.”
Well that’s pretty much the approach in the European market as well!
Surely the Cruze is from the Korean market, too? It’s called the Daewoo Lacetti Première there, and was launched there before any other country.
The Daewoo is actually a rebadged Cruze, although the Cruze was developed primarily by GM’s Korean partner GMDAT. The Cruze is built on GM’s global Delta II platform and variations of it will show up worldwide under different brands (Opel, Buick, Holden).
Chevy Aveo/Lova is sold in North America as Aveo/Aveo5.
Looks great for a small car..Well done GM China!!
Is the car shown here the Sail NB? It looks very much like the facelifted Aveo sedan that was launched a little while earlier
Here’s the link to the facelifted Aveo sedan – http://indianautosblog.com/2009/05/refreshed-chevrolet-aveo-sedan-launched-in-china
The modification is only to the length of the boot? Do let me know
Thanks in advance
Gerald, I realize the J300 was shown as a Chevrolet at motor shows first, but hit the Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Première before any Chevy and Holden Cruzes did. So, does it qualify as a ‘rebadged Cruze’ if it was the first one: the way I see it, if the Cruze came after the Lacetti, then surely the Cruze is a rebadged Lacetti?
It’s a small point—I just wanted to clarify where you were coming from.
