Landwind X8 – Landwind back with new action
Landwind are probably most famous for the terrible crash test in Europe, where their rebranded Isuzu SUV performed awfully in a crash test, which was then reverberated around the internet and practically killing any chance of Chinese cars going to Europe within five years of that video being posted onto Youtube. Perhaps it was Landwinds fault for attempting to put a 90′s car into the European market, where the German car club, ADAC, put it through their own crash test and made sure it failed. In short, Landwinds short foray into the European market was crumpled and crushed, just like its crash test model.
Landwind are back in 2009, with a new car, the X8, and are planning to show the world that it can do safety, sports, and SUV performance again. The X8 will come in 3 different specifications, a mixture of 4×4 and 4×2 will be offered to the public, the engine is an updated 2.4l Mitsubishi MIVEC offering 210Nm/118kw of power.
Pricing has not yet been announced, but is expected to be shown to the media prior to the August 28th launch date.
Although Landwind has suffered setbacks before, CCT is sure that this car is going to put them right again, as it is probably one of the better looking Chinese SUV’s on the market.

Mitsubishi Outlander-ripoff…
Ive seen that mentioned before, I cant see it myself. Forrester maybe, Outlander, where?
I cannot see it ever taking off.
Also X8 is that not part of the BMW range!
Another copy of and they expect it to sell in any place other than China. Rubbish!
“the German car club, ADAC, put it through their own crash test and made sure it failed”
Um… Would you get in one?
yes, I have been in several. The rag top version is quite decent, but impractical as a city run around.
If you don´t see any resemblance to the Mitsu Outlander, I don´t know what else to say. Especially the front screams Outlander. The back is individual, though, and the side profile of the Outlander is more dynamic.
But there was something else, I wanted to reply to. You wrote that “the German car club, ADAC, put it through their own crash test and made sure it failed”. This ain´t good journalism, as this sentence is not objective, but biased.
This is not the first time, I mentioned this. Which is sad: CCT is a good recource for valid information about chinese cars and I am glad, it is there. I just don´t like this tendency towards this kind one-sided journalism.
I agree with CCT that the German crash tests were not impartial themselves. The original car was based on a Japanese design that had also seen outings in Europe as the miserable Vauxhaul / Opal Frontera Rodeo. The Crash tests for them were very similar however they failed to make the same impact in the German press.
That said, Landwind should have understood the power the German Auto industry has in Europe and should have prepared itself better for the introduction of their cars to this market. Calling this new car an X8 is certianly going to please BMW et all!
