Fiat – Chery JV suspended
The proposed Fiat-Chery Fiat JV which would have seen the Alfa Romeo range built in China by Chery has been put on hold according to the Beijing Times.
The JV has come to an end due to Fiat signing up with Guangzhou Auto and planning to invest 500 million USD into the Chinese market, so it could be that Fiat do intend on producing the Alfa range, albeit with Guangzhou Auto instead of Chery.
It could be that Fiat is more pre-occupied with its recent purchase of Chrysler, and also its Guangzhou plans to pursue another JV at the moment. The previous plan, from 2007, was to create a fifty-fifty joint venture in Anhui province which would have theoretically been able to produce 175,000 cars per year.
