CCT, I live in New Zealand (that friendly little neigbour of Australia) and I know that there is a major research facility in the city of Adelaide where they also manufacutre the cars. This is where they developed the platform for the Holden Commodore (Buick Park Lane in China) and other vehicles. The Adleaide factory is where they produce the Commodore but I'm pretty sure they also make the Cruze there as well.

I agree... sort of... there could be some R&D facilities there (Ill admit Im not 100% up to date with the Aussie car industry!) but Im sure its geared towards large RWD V6/V8 sedans, not exactly the car that most Chinese are shopping for.

There is nothing to gain from buying Holden, it is basically GM's Australian distribution outlet that distributes imported Daewoos and makes Zeta based full-size V8 RWD cars, the kind of models unfit for China.

If DongFeng is looking to gain an Australian sales network, fine. But there is no useful technology to loot from Holden, unlike Opel and Volvo that BAIC and Geely are chasing respectively.
