Hummer’s China deal outlined at last
Hummer maybe finding its home in China very soon under the GM-Tengzhong deal which will see Hummer being operated as an offshore company but under Chinese control.
The plans were outlined on the auto.163 website and are as follows:
- Tengzhong is going to take over the Hummer sales network in the USA.
- Tengzhong will take over the IPR, including trademarks, patent rights, and other Hummer related issues.
- Tengzhong will operate Hummer as an offshore business.
- Until 2012 GM will continue to produce Hummers and offer technical services to Tengzhong.
- Before 2012 Hummer will release a new H3 model and also the H4.
- Hummers marketing and R&D will continue as it is.
Tengzhong has already announced that it doesnt plan to build a Chinese Hummer factory, although it was stated before that it did have plans for such a factory. Tengzhong has also announced that it doesnt plan on obtaining Hummer assets or plans on taking a stake in GM.
More news as we get it.

Wow, that sounds great i mean at least the quality of the vehicle wouldn’t be compromised, but i wonder what TengZhong can gain from the purchase of Hummer though, it seems to me to be a complete waste of money. But if they are smart, they could easily revive it by introducing Hybrid Hummer which i think they are working on as we speak, i guess they just have to pump lot of money into in for this one.
Exactly! What’s in it for Tengzhong? I really can’t see the Chinese government giving a green light to a deal like this. Then again I can’t really understand the logic in any Chinese company being allowed to to take on Hummer!
You are spot on Mark. Beijing had vowed to promote “new energy” and the greening of China through auto development. So this move is contradictory, and illogical, but after lots of discussion in high places about disapproving the purchase, someone has likely greased the right palm.
why a chinese company would take hummer???simple…because is a military vehicle used by usa…imagine what they can learn about it….china will dominate the world soon!!!
Yeah right! I would hardly say the Hummvee is the cutting edge of the US army. It’s not as if it’s a MBT or a stealth fighter. Anyway, if this was their aim, why bother buying the company when they can just buy the car and reverse engineer it?
They bought it because they want the technology, isn’t that simple enough???!! Anyways GO CHINA!! China Rocks.
What technology? Seriously what tech has Hummer got that Chinese companies don’t already have access to?
