Guangzhou-Fiat hoping to get license to sell Fiats

Alfa Romeo are the petrol heads car of choice in recent years after the demise of MG, recent models such as the Alfa Romeo 159 Wagon have our panties in a twist, so you can imagine the excitement on the possibility of Alfa Romeo entering the Chinese market anytime soon.

Fiat-Guangzhou are reportedly looking for official approval to begin import sales of Alfa Romeo cars in China. Other Fiat models such as the Fiat 500 are also expected to hit the streets in China to give competition to the MINI line up. The 500 Fiat costs between 100,000rmb and 160,000rmb in European markets, and is expected to cost around 50% more in China so prices from 150,000rmb and rising are to be expected for any future Fiat 500 in China.

The Guangzhou-Fiat JV is expected to be kick started in 2011 with the sale of the locally made Fiat Linea according to our sources.
